SEM Goals for 2010-2011

Each year, we establish goals for SEM at Laurel Mountain. Many of the goals are simply restating the foundations of the program, while others may extend previous successes to new areas in the curriculum.

  • In grades K-5, students will participate in an Enrichment Clusters for 6-8 weeks.
  • Students will participate in Enrichment Cluster Showcases to highlight products and services created during the enrichment clusters.
  • Continue to utilize the Renzulli Learning System (RLS) within the classroom by creating projects and assignments to be completed by students.
  • Utilize the Renzulli Differentiation Engine on RLS to help meet the needs of all learners.
  • 5th graders will use the Personal Success Plan (PSP) on RLS to set academic and personal goals throughout the school year.
  • IIM will continue to be used in all grade levels K-5 within the regular curriculum and with student directed projects taking place in the classroom.
  • Build and utilize each child's Total Talent Portfolio (TTP) and communicate contents with parents.
  • Robotics lessons will be taught in all classrooms grades K-5.
  • Offer E-slot Electives to all students grades K-5. These will occur before or after scheduled enrichment clusters. These will provide all students another time during the school year to explore areas of interest.
  • Increase or maintain our parent and community involvement with enrichment clusters and E-slots.
  • Use the training learned during from Cathy Berger Kaye training in August on Service Learning in the classroom.
  • Continue to make Service Learning a focus within our enrichment clusters and E-slot activities.
  • Create Service Learning opportunities within the classroom by tying concepts of Service Learning to TEKS.
  • Continue to offer parent classes to educate community about the different aspects of SEM.
  • Continue to offer enrichment cluster tours to parents, so parents witness enrichment clusters in action.
  • Continue to teach Primary Education Thinking Skills (PETS) lessons in grades 1 and 2.
  • Continue to offer math compacting support in 4th grade.
  • Enrichment Coordinator will continue to collaborate with teachers in content areas to reach all of our diverse learners.
  • As always, we will expand on all of the successes of last year.
