What are Enrichment Clusters and what will they look like?
An Enrichment Cluster is a group of 10 to 15 students with a common interest who come together to create a real product or service. The clusters are formed based on input from the Student Interest Surveys. A teacher and/or an expert in the field of study facilitates each cluster. Enrichment Clusters provide opportunities for students to apply the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations. Students work together to solve problems, create products, and further develop reading, writing, math, science, art, and music knowledge. Best of all, Enrichment Clusters make learning meaningful and fun for students; this excitement will carry over into the classroom. Our goal is for each LME student to participate in 1 Enrichment Cluster during the 2008/2009 school year. The clusters will meet for about one hour per week for 6 to 8 weeks (depending on grade level). The grade level groupings for clusters is as follows: 4th and 5th grade clusters will occur October 17th - December 12th, 2nd and 3rd grade clusters will occur January 23rd - March 13th and kindergarten and 1st grade clusters will occur April 17th – May 22nd.
